The Election Commission of India introduced the concept of Election Identity Card (Voter Identity Card) in  1993. The one of the major initiatives taken by the Election Commission of India to prevent bogus voting  and to make sure that a real voter only may cast his vote and nobody make a bogus voting in the name of  other person.
