Vayalikada Kuttan Pillai - A True Gandhian and Patriotic Late Shri S. Kuttan Pillai, popularly and affectionately known as Vayalikada Kuttan Pillai was a true Gandhian and Patriotic. He was the inspiring force behind the installation of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at the Chadayamangalam Junction in the next year after Gandhiji’s martyrdom in 1948, as his tribute to the Father of our Nation. Flowering the statue everyday became an integral part of his life till his last breath. Being a true Gandhian follower during India’s independence struggle, putting a statue of Mahatma Gandhi and offering flowers everyday was one of his major contribution in propagating Gandhian values, thoughts and ideals in our society. The 2ft height statue of Mahatma Gandhi on a 8ft height pillar facing the Main Central Road has became a main landmark and attraction of Chadayamangalam which reminds everyone with great pleasure when they speaks and think about Chadayamangalam. As a part of beautification and development of Chadayamangalam Junction, the Chadayamangalam Grama Panchayat had decided to renovate the statue. The renovated statue was dedicated to the nation in a public gathering on 02nd October of 1998 by then Kollam District Collector Shri Devendra Kumar Singh. As a token of appreciation and recognition the collector facilitated Shri Kuttan Pillai with a “Ponnada” in the same meeting.
