Kollam District and Sessions Court.:

Kollam District and Sessions Court function under the judicial and administrative control of the High Court of Kerala. Kollam District court is the Principal Court of the original civil jurisdiction in the District and also the Appellate Court of the subordinate courts in the District. All the lower courts in Kollam District are under the control of Kollam District Court. The Chief Judicial Magistrate is the highest authority of the Criminal courts of the Revenue District of Kollam. Kollam District Court is situated in the Civil Station Complex at District Headquarters Kollam. There is one Sub-Court in Kottarakka under the District Court to deal with the matters under the jurisdiction of Kottarakkara covering the whole area Kottarakkara Taluk.

Kottarakkara Munsiff’s Court and Magistrate’s Court function under the control of Kollam District and Sessions Court. These courts represent the first tier of the judicial setup. Chadayamangalam Village falls under the jurisdiction of Kottarakkara Munsiff’s Court for Civil matters and for Criminal matters Chadayamangalam village falls under the jurisdiction of Judicial IInd Class Magistrate’s Court-I of Kottarakkara.

Kottarakkara Family Court:

The family’s contribution to the society is very important and families are regarded as an integral part of the development of the society they lives. Families are the basic units of a society and any issues and indifferences in the family will make an impact in the society. Issues, indifferences and broken family will create many problems in the society. The objective of the Family Court is to promote conciliation and secure speedy settlement of domestic disputes relating to marriage and family affairs. In Kerala the family courts are started in the year 1992. There are counseling centers consist of Physiologists, Psychiatrist and social activists, are attached to each family court. Litigations concerning marriage, maintenance, divorce, guardianship, custody of children etc. are settled in the Family Courts. The family court also settles disputes between the couples regarding property.

Labour Court, Kollam:

Labour Courts are established with the main objective of maintaining peace and harmony in the industrial sector by quick and timely disposal of labour disputes through adjudication, the labour courts are established. Quick and timely disposal of disputes at the industrial sector has gained high priority so that industrial growth does not suffer on account of any labour unrest. There are number of acts and legislations enacted by our Governments for regulation of industrial sector, especially in the industrial relations. The relation between the employees and the employer is a major factor in the smooth running of the industry. The industrial disputes are settled mainly through the intervention of the conciliation officers through the process of conciliation. If conciliation fails, the dispute is referred to adjudication by Labour Courts/ Industrial Tribunals. Role and functions of Labour courts have great public importance. The disputes between the employee and employer are dealt here appropriate decisions are taken according to the prevailing law concerned. The labour disputes include demand for hike in wages and allowances, issues with Personnel department, retrenchment issues, indiscipline issues, issues connected with leave and working hours, issues of bonus payment, non-compliance or non-implementation of labour enactments/agreements, issues with working norms and work load etc.

Kottarakkara Legal Service Committee:

Legal Service Authority was constituted for providing free and competent legal services to weaker sections of the society to ensure that opportunities for securing justice were not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities and to organize Lok Adalat. Lok Adalat (people’s court) camps is very effective in settling issue between parties especially in the case of money claims, disputes like partition suits, damages, and matrimonial cases. This is an effective tool to settle the issues fast and without heavy legal expenses. Every agreement arrived at Lok Adalat by the consent of the parties, the award passed by the conciliators are deemed as decree of Civil Court, shall be final and binding on all the parties to the dispute and no appeal shall lie from the award of the Lok Adalat. Those who have annual family income comes below Rs. 25,000/- , SC/ST communities without income bar, Children, Women, Industrial workers, Victims of communal riots, those who are under police custody and those who are engaged in slavery are eligible to get legal aid from the Kerala State Legal Services Authority. In Kerala, Legal Service Committees are formed at the High Court level, District level and Taluk level.
